Ability by Dimplex introduce heat pump ready FCUs

Ability by Dimplex have been innovating in fan coil unit (FCU) functionality for over 25 years and the latest development is an enabler to reduced carbon in buildings.

In 2002 Ability led the market with the introduction of EC/DC fans which created a step change in acoustic and energy performance. That innovation was EVO and is now standard across the entire Ability portfolio.

And now the Ability FCUs have been further improved by the introduction of heat pump-ready coils. Traditional FCU coils are designed to deliver heating and cooling from the same unit with heating flow temperatures typically at 82/71, 82oC flow and 71oC return. These temperatures reflect the operating parameters of fossil fuel boilers and have remained unchanged for decades. However, more and more specifiers are moving towards heat pumps as the primary source of low-temperature hot water in hydronic heating systems. Typical flow and return temperatures of 60/30 or 45/40 mean a reduced heat output from traditional FCUs which results in a greater number of larger FCUs needing to be specified.

But Ability have now brought further innovation to the range, and our coils have been specifically developed to optimise heat output at the lower flow temperatures associated with heat pumps, without any negative impact on cooling.

This development reduces the number of FCUs required with a proportionate reduction in their carbon footprint. Most importantly, the heat pump-ready coils in Ability FCUs are an enabler in the decarbonisation of buildings, contributing to the UK’s net-zero ambitions.
